A record 161,560 passengers used Key West International Airport in the month of March, bringing the total close to half a million passengers so far this year at 454,692. The passenger count is a record high for the month of March at EYW and brings the total increase in passenger numbers for the first quarter to 15 percent.

Major increases in passenger numbers were also seen in January and February, breaking records year over year.

"I applaud my staff for making airport operations run so smoothly during ongoing Concourse A construction and heavier passenger traffic during the first quarter," said airport Executive Director Richard Strickland.

Increases in seat capacity were seen among the following airlines:
American Airlines, operating a second daily mainline A319 aircraft to Dallas/Fort Worth and a second daily flight to Washington’s Reagan airport on the 76-seat Embraer 175. It has also added a fifth daily flight to Charlotte on the 76-seat EMB-175.
United Airlines, operating mainline 737-700 aircraft in Key West for the first time to Newark, Washington, Chicago and Houston.
Delta, operating new New York LaGuardia service on the 76-seat EMB-175.
JetBlue, operating the larger mainline A220 to Boston.
Silver, operating additional Orlando and Tampa flights. On April 22, Silver will celebrate its fifth anniversary of its ATR aircraft fleet presence in Key West.

Concourse A Update
Key West International Airport’s Concourse A construction project is steadily moving forward with Strickland anticipating the new facility to be complete within one year. In March, installation of structural steel marked a major milestone on the project. Once the roof structure is in place, the project will be at 55-60 percent completion, according to Tyler Bethel, EYW Deputy Director. Following steel comes installation of glass. Work on the passenger connector bridge will begin in the next two to three weeks, marking another major milestone on the project.

The open, modern, and efficient concourse building totaling 49,000 square feet will include spaces for eight gates, additional restrooms, and support areas. Concourse A will improve the airport's level of service and operational flexibility such as ramp operations, safety, and efficiency while addressing long-term passenger facility needs. A simple and intuitive layout will be easy to navigate combined with engaging design elements to ensure passengers have a stress-free airport experience. A new First Call Beach Bar at baggage claim, a Chili's restaurant, and Farm 2 Air Market are also planned. Key West International Airport will focus on operational efficiency and reliability, providing an environment today’s travelers expect and deserve.
