Construction and airport operations continue as normal as the U.S. Navy Blue Angels prepare for the 2023 NAS Key West Southernmost Air Spectacular April 15-16.

Construction of vertical production piles has begun, progressing from west to east. Plans are in place for nighttime apron work to begin in the coming weeks.

Key West International Airport is a proud sponsor of the 2023 Southernmost Air Spectacular. The first naval flight recorded from Key West was on Sept. 22, 1917, with Coast Guard Lt. Stanley Parker flying a Curtiss N-9 seaplane. On Dec. 19, 1917, Naval Air Station Key West was established. Since 1917, the installation has served as a training facility preparing hundreds of thousands of aviators from all services, as well as allied nations, to preserve peace and protect the nation. NAS Key West is currently the Navy’s premier air-to-air combat training station and also home to a bustling port facility.
