A vital transportation gateway in the heart of the Florida Keys. Our new website is on its way.
Florida Keys Marathon International Airport serves as a vital transportation gateway in the heart of the Florida Keys, supporting residents, visitors, businesses, emergency services, and general aviation activity throughout the Middle Keys. The airport plays an important role in regional connectivity, economic development, disaster response, and tourism while offering convenient access to one of the world's most unique island destinations.
In recent years, the airport has undergone significant infrastructure improvements aimed at enhancing safety, operational efficiency, and long-term resiliency, most recently completing a runway renovation project in October 2025. Efforts are underway to bring commercial service to the Middle Keys.

The Marathon Airport opened in 1943, built by the U.S. Navy as an auxiliary airfield for Naval Air Station Key West. It was deactivated at the end of World War II and transferred to the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners for use as a civilian airport.
For most of its existence, the county owned-and-operated airport has been a general aviation facility, and it also had scheduled passenger airline service for more than 25 years in the past. On April 20, 2016, for the first time in approximately three decades, U.S. Customs and Border Protection became available at the airport with the completion of a new 4,200-square-foot permanent facility located in the former commercial terminal.
