Key West International Airport is performing better than most airports in the Lower 48.

That’s according to data provided by Michael Lum, Managing Partner with Volaire Aviation, who gave a performance update during the Sept. 9, 2026, meeting of the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners.

Lum said enplanements at Key West International Airport are forecast to increase 11.2 percent for Q3 2026 and 7 percent for the year, adding overall seat capacity is up about 8.3 percent for the year.

Airlines are flying more mainline aircraft and fewer regional jets, bringing more passengers to the Florida Keys. Passenger traffic increased 8 percent year over year from January through August, bringing the total passenger count to 1.1 million.

Key West International Airport’s year over year seat capacity will increase 16 percent in Q3, Lum said.

Indexed to 2018, the airport’s seat capacity and enplanements exceed the average Florida airport by wide margins.
