The year is off to a record-setting start at Key West International Airport, evidenced by the Transportation Security Administration marking its seven busiest days of all time in the first three weeks of January.

The all-time record high was set on Jan. 2, 2026, with 4,263 outbound travelers screened through EYW’s new checkpoint.

Unveiled on Dec. 8, 2025, EYW’s new security checkpoint has four lanes and a new layout, making for shorter lines and a smoother travel process.

TSA officials said there has been positive feedback from the public about the new location.

Spring Break Travel Forecast
Nationwide, the TSA is preparing for high-volume Spring Break travel.

According to Airlines for America, domestic airlines plan to transport 173 million passengers from March 1 to April 30, up 4 percent from last year.

The busiest time to fly in the U.S. will be the week of Wednesday, April 2, according to Expedia. Passengers are encouraged to plan ahead, arrive early, and be prepared for bigger crowds and longer waits during peak weekends.

“As we celebrate these record-breaking numbers, we also thank our TSA officers for their daily dedication to safety at EYW and airports nationwide,” said Richard Strickland, Executive Director of Airports.
