Key West International Airport (EYW) continues modernizing its facilities to meet evolving operational and passenger needs.

The final phase in a series of upgrades to the Key West International Airport U.S. Customs facility is nearing completion.

The $5.1 million renovation was approved in July 2024 to modernize and expand the airport’s Customs facility to meet current international federal flight standards and requirements.

The airport was also awarded $2.5 million in October 2024 from the Federal Aviation Administration for a passenger boarding bridge, elevated walkway and secure connection to the facility, further supporting the airport's future international passenger-processing capabilities.

There have been multiple facility upgrades since 2009 to keep the airport in federal compliance.

“What we had before was insufficient for processing international flights,” said Richard Strickland, Executive Director of Airports. “We worked extensively with U.S. Customs over the facility’s needs and requirements for the safe and orderly processing of international passengers.”
