A better experience has arrived: Key West International Airport’s east-end baggage claim opened today, April 14, 2026, after several months of construction.

Baggage Carousel A, located at the site of the former ground-level departures area, is built to handle EYW’s record-breaking growth and future capacity.

The first passengers to use the carousel were impressed by its efficiency after arriving on Delta flight 1281 from Atlanta, and American Airlines flight 3580 from Miami.

Brand-new baggage service offices and rental car facilities are integrated in the space with airline support and ramp-level operations nearby.

“This is another monumental step in the Concourse A and Terminal Improvements Program,"
said Richard Strickland, Executive Director of Airports. "Coincidentally, the opening of Carousel A has happened on the one-year anniversary of Concourse A opening, both elements now drastically improving the transition from aircraft to curb.”

What makes the carousel more efficient?

The length of the device improves the flow of baggage, according to Matt Dubbe, National Design & Market Leader, Architecture, for Mead & Hunt.

“The running length of the flat plate baggage device is the true essential number as it allows for more bags,” he said, adding that security requirements stipulate airlines must monitor bags that return behind the secure side. “The longer the device (frontage), the more bags can sit on it and ideally they can turn off the device and all of the bags are on the non-secure side. Airlines like this as they have multiple duties beyond loading and monitoring inbound baggage.”

When will the other baggage carousel open?

The west-end baggage claim area is also part of Phase 2 of the overall Concourse A program and will feature Carousel B, now under construction through fall.
